Project Overview

GrantPuma is a recommender system that connects researchers, students, and faculty to the right grant opportunities. By analyzing and integrating information about users, their place of work, their network of people, and the various grant agencies and programs, GrantPuma is able to target the right opportunities to the right people.

Prior to joining the team, IXLA had developed a desktop web application concept and performed initial user research. My goal as the project lead and UI designer was to work with the clients to develop the look and feel of the brand that targets & captures its users.

Challenges

  • Make a brand that is trustworthy, inviting, and comprehensive to use
  • Focus on making it easy for researchers and professionals to sign up for the waitlist
  • Unify all the web and user experiences to create a cohesive branding experience

Solutions

  • Create a brand that drives innovation and spots talent by integrating simple shapes through color, illustrations, and imagery
  • Design an encouraging web experience that is easy for researchers or professors to follow the onboarding process
  • Use other deliverables such as motion, vector graphics, and logos created by the team to make a unified online experience

Challenges

After various meetings, revisions, and learning about our client several issues occurred throughout our review process. Web accessibility, implementation of scalable vector graphics, and semantic build structure were all a concern. But altogether the team executed a beautiful web build using a WordPress builder.

I was pushed to deliver and lead a web project, something I had never done before. I was able to relay any issues I had to my team for assistance in executing and building a beautiful website.

Things I’d do differently:
  • Connect with the client and discuss more about their space and interests.
  • Develop a design thinking process when designing for web or application.
  • Test the site amongst the clients and users.
